What is a Statypus?

Statypus is a digital zine with a focus on making statistics, data, and analytics accessible though visual data storytelling.

Most of our work focuses on sports, but we also occasionally look at art, music, pop-culture, or anything else that catches our interest.

Why is the site called Statypus?

Statypus is a portmanteau (that’s a fancy french word meaning to blend two words together) of Statistics + Platypus.

The platypus is a playful Australian aquatic mammal (kind of like an otter) which embodies what we want to do with this site - look at data and stats in a playful, approachable way.

Plus… I’m an Australian data scientist so the name just fits.
